Aik Berik, Village of Waterfalls (Paradise in Lombok)

AIK BERIK VILLAGE
Aik Berik is the name of the village which located at the north of Central Lombok Regent, bordering directly with tropical forests and located on the southern slope of Mount Rinjani with a height of +600 masl. With the cool air surrounded by the expanse of rice terrace and plantations Rinjani Mountain background behind it adds to the beauty of the panoramic view of the village. Various species of flora and fauna can also be found in the village forest. These are can be reach easely by car or motorcycle, it is aprox. 1 hour drive from the capital city of Lombok (Mataram/Praya) or main tourisms in Lombok ( Airport/Kuta Beach/ Senggigi Beach).


Aik Berik Village also offers a variety of spectacular natural attractions such as waterfalls which became a favorite place for tourists to enjoy the beauty and coolness of the water and the air in the middle of a tropical forest. With the Following interest in adventure, the route has been opened by the government of central Lombok as a new hiking trail towards Mount Rinjani / Segare Anak Lake serving natural expanse and many others uniqueness of Rinjani unrevealed yet.

TRADITION CULTURE AND COMMUNITY ACTIVITIES
Aik Berik Village Community is part of the Sasak who have a variety of cultural attractions heritage which is still maintained until now. The tradition is still ntained and preserved to this day, among others, is the tradition of marriage as an Kawin Lari (elopement), Nyongkolan (accompaniment bride) and Sorong Sereh / Aji Krame (for the marriage ceremony) led by Pembayun (traditional leaders who provide advice in singing traditional wedding ceremony). In the event Nyongkolan also lacks the traditional music such as Klentang and Gendang Beleq which played by several people to play traditional instruments just as preret, drums, gongs, and others. The local community also still believes in a way traditional medicine known as besembeq (using betel media that have recited the mantra by Belian / Shaman Sasak). The majority of the villagers are working in agriculture and plantations. On the sidelines of the event, they also make some kind of crafts such as wicker is made from bamboo, ketak (a type of vines) and other.





BENANG STOKEL WATERFALL
Benang Stokel waterfall is one of the popular waterfalls in the eyes of people from Lombok and another district or island. The tourists not just only local/domestic but also foreign tourists. Benang Stokel Waterfall also known as pengkelep udang because the story of the old man in the former location of the waterfall, there are several types of fish and shrimp, so that people make for their favorite place for fishing. While Benang Stokel itself is taken from the name of another waterfall situated at downstream of Pengkelep Udang Waterfall, Benang Stokel means of ball of string (in Sasak language) due to measure the height of the waterfall, old people firs use threads as a tool for measuring the height of the waterfall. So that the people named the waterfall as Benang Stokel.

BENANG KELAMBU WATERFALL
Other waterfalls are no less interesting, Benang Kelambu waterfall which is one of a cluster of waterfalls in the Aik Berik village. Before Benang Kelambu the waterfall itself is called Merabas which means spreading out. Recently the watefall is well known by the public as Benang Kelambu (netting yarn) because the view from a distance like a mosquito net hanging from a thread-shaped and decorated by green foliage above. For the local community this waterfall is a scred place which is where Dewi Anjani bathing at the time was about to rise and after descending from Rinjani Mount, so far the local people believe that the dripping water has properties that are very good for health especially at will and after trip.

ANAK IWOK GRAVE
Nyanggot grave is the name / title of this tomb because it is located alongside a hillside in the middle of the forest. The location of this tomb located in the north of the entrance to the village. In addition to the Nyanggot, local communities also call it Makam Anak Iwok ( Grave of Orphan), but that does not means the Tomb of an Orphan but it caused of presence alone and away from residential areas. There are various versions of the story of the people of this tomb, but the majority of local people believe that this tomb is the tomb of an Arab mujahid who came to Lombok during the Majapahit empire a few centuries ago. In addition to the surrounding community, this tomb is also frequented by pilgrims who come from outside the region such as Java and Sumatra. According to the account of one of the pilgrims believe that the Anak Iwok / Nyanggot is the tomb of their master.

MOUNTAIN CLIMBING RINJANI / SEGARE ANAK LAKE
According to the Head ofCentral Lombok Culture and Tourism H.L.Putria also one of Central Lombok Cultural say that climbing lane heading towards Segare Anak through the entrance of the Aik Berik village or Benang Stokel is the path of the king's ascent to perform rituals at Rinjani Mount is the Prince of Sri Dende from the South Coast of Central Lombok. In addition to performing a ritual, local communities also use this path for a fishing trip to Segara Anak Lake. By developing and increasing the interest of tourists to enjoy the beauty of Rinjani Mount, The government of Central Lombok Regency officially opened the hiking trail to Segara Anak Lake for local and foreign tourists.

State of unspoiled nature in the path of a variety of distinctive uniqueness of Rinjani Mount. Typicalls of rinjanis' flora and fauna is still prevalent as civet Rinjani (Latin name: Paradoxorus Hermapridus Rinjanicus), various types of butterflies, several species of birds, deer, and orchids. In addition, through this climb we can enjoy the view waterfall on the clouds that Tiara Dewi Anjani at an altitude +2000 masl. When they reached the stone Plawangan sides, climbers will be presented with a view of Segara Anak Lake there overnight. For tourists who love trekking, but the challenge is not too extreme, Aik Berik Village also offers soft trekking as attractive alternative. Travelers will be guiding by a local guide passes through the village surrounds Aik Berik through the woods, fields and gardens ends at the waterfalls. The trip can be reached either by foot or using vehicles that have been provided.
